1 Week Until the 2025 Maine Moose Hunt!! We are fired up for this season! Maine’s moose season kicks off September 22nd! Whether it’s your first tag or you’re a seasoned hunter, now’s the time to make sure you’re ready. ✅ Prep Your Gear: Double-check your rifle, optics, calls, GPS, and game bags. ✅ Scout Your Area: Know the terrain, access roads, and potential feeding/bedding areas. ✅ Practice Patience: Moose hunting is a waiting game—plan for long sits and quiet stalks. ✅ Know the Rules: Review Maine IFW regulations for your zone (season dates, tagging, and transportation rules). ✅ Plan for Meat Care: September temps can be warm—bring tarps, game bags, and a solid plan to keep your harvest cool and clean. 🔥 Pro Tip: Moose are most active during early morning and late evening hours. Calling can be especially effective during the rut—practice your cow calls and bull grunts! Good luck to all the hunters heading into the North Woods this season. Schoodic Lake - Piscataquis, ME Big game hunting Report on 25th Oct, 2025 - 4

What a week at our remote moose camp for the October Zone 9 hunt! I feel incredibly grateful to do what I love and share these experiences with others. We kicked off camp last weekend with some bird hunting and scouting — tons of sign and early moose sightings had us feeling confident right from the start. By midweek, the action was steady with 16 moose sightings, plenty of birds, and even better company. On Thursday, my client asked if I could bring my son back up — he had joined us earlier for a few days of bird hunting — and as it turned out, he was the lucky charm we needed. Friday afternoon, after picking up my son and heading back into the woods, we snuck into a road we spotted four moose that morning. Not long after, just 100 feet from the truck, a young bull appeared. One well-placed shot from my client brought an incredible journey full circle. This hunter has traveled the U.S. and the world in pursuit of game, and the Maine moose was the final piece of his hunting legacy — 28 years in the making. I can relate all too well, having waited 27 years before drawing my own tag in 2023. It was an honor and a privilege to help fulfill this dream and to gain not only a client, but a new friend and hunting partner. Moments like this remind me why I love guiding — sharing the beauty, challenge, and tradition of the Maine outdoors. – Chris Dumont Registered Maine Guide Moose Horn Guide Service 📍 Serving Maine’s North Woods – Hunting | Fishing | Canoe Trips | Recreation 📞 207-852-8758 📧 outdoorsman86@outlook.com #MooseHornGuideService #MaineMooseHunt #Zone9 #MaineGuides #HuntingTradition #MooseHunting #MaineOutdoors #HuntingLife #GuidedHunts #MaineAdventure

March 20, 2023

Schoodic Lake - Piscataquis, ME Big game hunting Report on 20th Mar, 2023

It's March and we're looking at the ice conditions as this winter has been very mild. Ice is plentiful but well below average thickness for this time of year. Anglers should be careful in the usual bad areas, especially near flowing water, pressure ridges, and natural bottlenecks. As the sun rises, the exposed rocks and shallows become warmer during the day, forming a thin layer of ice around the edges. The good news is that the long-term forecast looks seasonally colder, so hopefully, the ice will hold for a month.
